Bio
Alex Morales is an art studio major with a concentration in printmaking at Texas State University. She is heavily inspired by stop animation film and installation, in addition to her prints, to make the work manifest as a reality. She has experience in the juried exhibition 2023 at the Texas State galleries.
She is interested in works that consist of abstract imagery and colors and capturing stages of the work by making stop-motion films for my current pieces. She has expanded outside of prints with installation art and projection play to bring these pieces to life. She hopes to capture everything as detailed and expressive as she feels in that moment each time from now on.

Artist Statement
My work is rooted in a personal exploration of memory, identity, and emotional experience, evolving fluidly over time. Using abstraction, I capture the complexities of lived experience, tracing shifts in my emotional and psychological landscapes through deep shadows, vibrant colors, and layered narratives. Whether through intaglio, experimental drypoint, CMYK screen printing, or risograph and stop-motion animation, I experiment with diverse media to reflect the transient nature of memory and emotion.
The work of William Kentridge, with his innovative use of prints and animation, has inspired me to push boundaries in my own practice, blending various media to express the layered nuances of human experience. Similarly, the work of Hiromu Oka has influenced my approach to color and texture, particularly in my risograph prints. Oka’s intricate, handmade prints have deepened my appreciation for process, where the tactile qualities of the medium itself—imperfect and unpredictable—mirror the complexity of memory and feeling.
Stop-motion animation also informs my work, with its frame-by-frame, tactile nature mirroring the slow, deliberate layers of printmaking. This connection between time-based media and printmaking allows me to explore the fluidity of emotional and psychological states, creating work that reflects the subtle shifts and contradictions that define the human experience.
